We transport our four bikes on the tow bar, and the manufacturer recommends securing the load with two straps as well; this is highly advisable on some country roads away from the motorway, even though our four bikes are very light. Initially, we did this using rubberised hooks at the top of the roof edge, just as we had done previously with the VW bus. However, this has a drawback: if fine sand sticks to the rubber whilst driving, it acts like sandpaper.
The solution is these V4A hooks – truly durable hooks – which are exactly the right length so that they don’t catch when you open the doors 180°. These are simply screwed in place of the upper screws for the tailgate, and that’s it. V4A is essential for vehicles that are driven all year round or are parked by the sea. It costs a little more than V2A, but makes a big difference.
