Since this year, we’ve done away with hammering pegs into the ground – pegs that don’t hold in gusty winds or refuse to go in when the ground is hard. After what felt like a hundred pegs had been ‘hammered to pieces’, this idea came to the rescue of the awning. Simply screw them into the ground until they’re flush with the surface. That way, nobody gets their foot caught on them either. The orange washers help you spot them, and the black eyelets make it easy to attach the tensioning spring.
The clear advantage of using screws is that they go into the ground more easily and aren’t as likely to come out again in gusts of wind. The three sets are based on feedback from the EarlyFox community:
Disc: I prefer to buy my own screws, but the hooks are brilliant.
Base: It should be enough for most campsites. The bag is really important and brilliant.
Complete: On very rocky sites, the short screw is better, so I’d like more of them.
Note: The two-part component in the EarlyFox colour has been changed to a single part thanks to a different material, although it is now red rather than orange.
If anyone is concerned about the durability of the bit: please note that the screws are driven into relatively soft ground, which puts very little strain on the connection.
